Black Student Success Week: Equity and Black Representation in Higher Education Leadership

April 28, 2021 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

To eliminate inequity in higher education such that student experiences and outcomes are not predicted by race, public higher education requires diverse institutional leaders who define a vision, determine a strategy, and galvanize organization-wide action to mitigate inequity and close persistent racialized equity gaps. This webinar will explore the institutional barriers and biases in the identification, recruitment, selection, and retention of equity-minded Black leaders at the CEO level in higher education and discuss actions that may lead to an increase in the number of BIPOC college and university presidents. Panelists will offer insight into their CEO journey, discuss how exclusionary practices and barriers move the conversation away from individual preparedness to one of institutional bias, and offer their insights into what actions can be taken to advance systemic change.
