Cadena Transfer Center @ Fullerton College

Fullerton College Diversity Committee

Mission and Purpose

Originally formed in 2001 as the Fullerton College Equity and Diversity Committee, in 2009, the name was changed to the Fullerton College Diversity Committee following the transfer of the position of Campus Director of Equity and Diversity to the position of Director of Equity and Diversity for the N.O.C.C.C.D. The mission of the Diversity Committee is to plan and develop activities with the purpose of promoting harmony, equality, and unity through a greater understanding of diversity. The committee promotes and protects the interests and concerns of minority and underrepresented persons; this includes persons designated as a protected class by the California Education Code. The committee actively promotes and advocates for a positive, supportive, and safe campus climate. The committee advocates for and plans activities that promote student equity. To support its mission and purpose, the committee creates and recommends campus activities that educate, engage, and challenge students, faculty, staff, and administrators to celebrate and acknowledge the importance of diversity within the campus and society. The committee actively seeks assistance and resources from within and outside the campus community. The committee provides advice and recommendations to the college president on related issues.

Representation and Roles of Cadena/Transfer Center Personnel
The Cadena Cultural Center is Fullerton College’s official cultural center and as such, personnel from the Cadena Cultural Center work closely with the Diversity Committee to provide the needed support necessary to plan and coordinate events sponsored by the Diversity Committee. In addition, the past practice of awarding funds for diversity activities to the general fund of the Cadena/Transfer Center has created a need to afford permanent seats to the following Cadena/Transfer Center personnel:

Ø       Cadena/Transfer Center Director, Lily Espinoza

o        As the fiscal administrator with oversight and authority over the Cadena/Transfer Center budget, the CTC Director will have fiscal oversight of funds awarded to the Diversity Committee.

Ø       Cadena Coordinator, Vincent White

o        Since the primary duties of the Cadena Coordinator include planning and coordinating diversity events as well as budgetary responsibilities of creating requisitions, journal vouchers, and maintaining an accurate record of the CTC budget, the Cadena Coordinator will assume the secretarial duties of the committee listed above as well as taking minutes and maintaining the Diversity Committee webpage.

Prospective members should consider the committee schedule and their workload when considering participation and continued participation. The Committee shall engage any member who fails to meet their responsibilities and, if necessary and as a last resort, petition the leadership of the representative group when it is clear that a member cannot meet their obligations but is unwilling to relinquish their seat.

Relationship with the Student Equity Plan Committee
The Diversity Committee shall recognize the supportive relationship that exists between it and the Student Equity Plan Committee. Committee members shall be familiar with the Student Equity Plan and ensure that committee goals facilitate the goals of the Student Equity Plan. Open Forum

It is our belief that the Diversity Committee should always consider the voices of all campus constituents. Thus, it shall be the expressed intent of the Diversity Committee to encourage active engagement with all possible campus entities in its effort to meet its mission and purpose. Thus, the committee shall set aside time at the end of each meeting to allow campus entities (students, faculty, staff, and administrators) to address the committee for the purpose of information, education, petition, support, and issues related to campus climate. Petitions for committee funds shall be made using the following form:
